The HBCU Tour: From The D to The Yard

Why This Tour Matters

Our students deserve more than a quick glimpse. They deserve a journey that affirms who they are and expands what they believe is possible.

The From the D to the Yard™ Tour is a high-impact, immersive, and unforgettable weeklong HBCU tour experience, rooted in education, history, culture, and community. It’s designed to help students see themselves on campus—and leave knowing they belong there.

This is where mindsets begin to shift, outlooks change, and where lifelong memories are made.

What Sets Us Apart

While many tours offer access, we offer transformation and an almost all-inclusive experience that ensures that students and families are not concerned about finances while touring.

Our tour is:

  • Led by trauma-informed social workers, educators, and movement leaders who support and inspire students from a place of empowerment, accountability, and care.
  • Built for Detroit-area students, with intentional stops that reflect what our students need to experience in the areas of education, history, culture, and legacy
  • Culturally rooted and reflective, with group discussions, social engagement, and confidence-building embedded throughout. Our students walk in history, visit landmarks that shaped society as we know it, and develop relationships with in-person group activities and more.
  • Structured, safe, and logistically-sound, with elements of relaxation and fun incorporated for a holistic experience. Remi is not only a social worker and movement leader, but she was also a travel agent for over 10 years. It shows in how the tours are curated and how smoothly they run.
  • The best next step for students who not only want to tour HBCUs, but desire to be prepared to apply, enroll, thrive and graduate. Our esteemed partner of How to Reach Hillman, Tiffany Brockington, will lead our in-person tour workshop and is a current HBCU professor,  two-time HBCU alumna (Howard University + Kentucky State University), and current doctoral candidate at Morgan State University.
  • An incredible value, that also includes an optional fundraiser to reduce the out-of-pocket cost even further.
